Mechanical Issues Delay Opening Of Ice Rink In Downtown Tuscaloosa

The City of Tuscaloosa says mechanical issues have prompted a postponement of opening of the ice skating rink in Government Plaza.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa said on Monday that mechanical issues have prompted it to postpone opening the ice skating rink at Government Plaza for Holidays on the Plaza.

City officials anticipate having the rink open early next week.

What's more, the city announced that a grand opening will still be held Monday evening for the Tinsel Trail, which benefits Tuscaloosa’s One Place.

The free event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., with Government Plaza remaining open to the public to view the Christmas trees decorated by local businesses.

Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner will also host a free musical tree lighting ceremony at Alberta Park at the Gateway on Friday, Nov. 25, at 5:30 p.m. to help ring in the holiday season.
