Jarrod Milligan, owner of Milligan's Home Improvement, told Tuscaloosa Patch that the new location, which is housed in the space formerly occupied by a Cost Cutters hair salon, had its soft opening Wednesday and is planning for a full opening on Saturday, Aug. 2.

This expands the company's offerings from its popular Milligan Farm and Lumber store in the Samantha community — the place where he and his wife, Brittany, grew up and both graduated from Northside High School.

"We're more than hardware, we're home improvements," he said. "While we don't have lumber and building materials [at the new Northport location], we can sell them out of our other store and deliver to you. We offer hardware, plumbing, electrical, landscaping and irrigation. We'll also sell dog feed, deer corn, chicken feed, things like that, as well."

When asked how he would describe the new business to the Northport community, he explained that their personal touch and customer service would be the store's top priorities.

"What we push with the small hometown hardware stores is that we want to be customer-friendly," he said. "So we just really want to invite everybody out to give it a shot. We bought the other store [in Samantha]. It was an existing store, so it's a little bit different because it's a little bit more for agricultural and it has more building materials. But as I mentioned, whatever we have at the other store, we can sell [at the Northport location]. We're just a little limited on room at the store by Winn-Dixie."

Milligan said the store hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

"We want people to keep their tax dollars local," he said. "Bu what we want is for everyone to try us first, come in, see if we've got what you're looking for. When we did the market study, it showed that tens of thousands of people live within a two-mile radius right there where our store is. So it just makes sense with all the neighborhoods that they have somewhere two minutes away to go and not have to deal with Highway 82 traffic."
