TUSCALOOSA, AL — Verizon customers in Tuscaloosa and across Alabama are currently being impacted by an ongoing outage of phone service that extends across the country.

One Patch reader shared a photo of a sign posted at the Verizon store on McFarland Boulevard that said the following: "Verizon is currently experiencing a nationwide outage and is actively working to restore service. At this time, there is no ETA for resolution. If your phone is showing SOS or “NO SERVICE”, this is a result of the outage. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

According to Downdetector, a website that collects user-submitted reports of outages, the nationwide outage spike began around 11:41 a.m. local time.

Verizon acknowledged the issue publicly on Wednesday afternoon, posting a statement on X regarding the service disruption.

"We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers," the company said.

No timetable has been given as to when service will be restored.
