Karen Mathis — a Brookwood resident who owns Bama Tan locations in Northport and Tuscaloosa — has leased the property to then be run as her own business. In this role, she will cover operating expenses and retain profit generated by the business.

"Myself and Danny Simpson are really excited to have the opportunity to revive the Lake View club," Mathis told Patch. "Lake View is a beautiful community and The Club is a gorgeous piece of that community with a lot to offer. We are looking forward to reviving it with a fresh look to the greens, pool, lobby and even adding some spa services. I truly believe it will become a destination place for all to enjoy."

The Club at Lakeview is owned by the LPOA and was first opened in 1978. It includes a nine-hole golf course complimented by a range of traditional country club amenities.

"We are happy to welcome Mrs. Mathis to Lake View and look forward to the grand opening this fall," Lake View Mayor Adrain Dudley told Patch following the announcement.

The club has been closed and undergoing renovations for most of the summer as the LPOA has searched for a new lessee.

The LPOA explained that while the building and property is owned by the group, the clubhouse has been a business open to the public since its opening. What's more, the LPOA insists that the partnership it has with the lessee allows the LPOA to make the most of the property, while the lessee is tasked with bringing jobs, revenue, and leisure services to the community.

“Please help us in welcoming Karen Mathis to the neighborhood!," the LPOA said in a formal announcement after the deal was finalized. "Karen brings a wealth of business experience and dedication to our LPOA Club House."

Those wishing to learn more about new improvements at the course and the change in management can attend the next LPOA meeting set for Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m.

The Club at Lakeview is located at 21026 Agnes Drive in McCalla.

A date for the grand opening this fall has not been announced.
