The 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program recently announced nine Tuscaloosa-area students have been selected among 16,000 semifinalists.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program recently announced nine Tuscaloosa-area students have been selected among 16,000 semifinalists for the program.

These high school seniors will now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships, worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.

The organization says 95% of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, with half of the Finalists winning a National Merit Scholarship and earning the Merit Scholar title.
