A special called meeting of the Northport City Council's Administrative and Finance Committee is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 1 to discuss the matter. Few specifics have been made public on what the step raises would look like if passed, as officials are expected to hammer out those details during the meeting next week.

The city has passed numerous step and COLA raises over the last few years, along with certain incentive boosts for employees.

The most recent year where COLA raises were not given came as part of the 2021 budget passed last year during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the cutback for the last budget year, step raises were still given to city employees.

The last time COLA raises were provided to employees, the increase was for 1.5%, in addition to a 1.5% step raise.

Patch reported in September when The Northport City Council voted to adopted a $37.5 million general fund budget, in addition to $10.7 million for its water and sewer operation budget.

The meeting will be open to the public and is set for 4:30 p.m. in the Civic Meeting Room at Northport City Hall.
