Northport Mayor Collecting Donations For Hurricane Ian Victims In North Port, Florida
Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon is once again collecting donations for those in need, with this instance benefit hurricane victims in Florida.

NORTHPORT, AL — Known for his generosity during times of crisis, Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon is once again collecting donations for those in need. This time, the beneficiaries will be those impacted by Hurricane Ian in North Port, Florida.

"The director of services [In Sarasota County, Florida] got emotional when I told her we wanted to help them," Herndon said on Facebook Friday. "I plan on leaving early Wednesday morning, unloading and drive back as far as we have to to find a motel room."

Herndon also said Tuscaloosa Toyota donated $2,000 to go toward travel expenses and supplies.
"We need donations of everything other than used clothing," Herndon said. "I hope to get enough supplies for several trailers, so we will need some drivers."

The mayor said he would be collecting donations at his surveying office until 5 p.m. on Friday and then again on Saturday from 6 a.m. until noon. He also said those leaving cases of bottled water can leave them on the sidewalk after hours.
The upcoming trip represents just the latest for the gregarious public servant, who has recently collected donations for delivery to tornado and flooding victims in Kentucky, as well as tornado victims in Hale County, just to name a few.
