Northport Now Providing Emergency Notifications Via TuscALERT
The City of Northport will now be participating in providing emergency notifications through the free countywide system.

NORTHPORT, AL — As the city is still reeling from a devastating flood event in June, the City of Northport announced on Monday that residents will now be able to receive the latest emergency information from the City of Northport through TuscALERT.
TuscALERT is a countywide emergency notification system that is free to use and provides up-to-the-minute information to a range of mobile devices during emergency situations, including severe weather events.
"The City of Northport is proud to be a part of the TuscALERT system," Council President Jeff Hogg told Patch on Monday. "In a day where technology is at the finger tips of most people, having another way to alert people in emergency situations or to get critical information out helps strengthen communication efforts for our citizens."

While Northport residents could previously sign up for severe weather alerts and other emergency notifications from the county, the new changes will now see the City of Northport have the ability to provide its own emergency notifications to residents when needed.

The news comes after a severe flooding event on June 19 caused nearly $3 million in damage across the city, mostly to homes. As Patch previously reported, 96 homes were impacted in some way by the flooding, with five houses destroyed and 38 sustaining major damage.
Thankfully, there were no injuries or deaths in Northport as a result of flooding, which prompted an ongoing state of emergency in the City of Northport as cleanup efforts continue.
