Northport Police K9 Ooze Retires After Eight Years On The Force

NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport City Council on Monday unanimously approved the retirement of one of the city's most beloved police officers.

Northport Police Department K9 Officer Ooze is now set to enjoy retirement after eight commendable years on the force.

"Ooze has been a valuable member of the NPD family and has served our community well fir the past eight years," Northport Police Chief Gerald Burton told Patch. "He has contributed greatly in helping take drugs, guns and criminals off the streets of Tuscaloosa county. He will be missed but he has earned his much needed retirement. He will always be a part of our NPD family."
Ooze was originally trained in narcotics detection and has been an important face in the department's community engagement efforts, making appearances at local schools and community events.

The retired officer will now be adopted by his former handler and family.
