Northridge High Football Coach Mike Vickery Leaves For New Job

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Pelham High School on Thursday announced that Northridge High football coach Mike Vickery has been hired as the school's next head football coach, following a vote by the city school board Wednesday night during a special called meeting.

Pelham City Schools pointed to Vickery's 21 years of coaching experience — including the past six seasons as the head coach for the Jaguars — and 12 seasons as an offensive coordinator at Daphne High School.

“Coach Vickery has dedicated his career to investing in the lives of young men through the sport of football," Pelham City Schools Director of Athletics Kim Kiel said. "His experiences have prepared him to lead our football program and build on the legacy left by Coach [Tom] Causey."

In the last two years at Northridge, Vickery's teams have gone 7-3 and made the AHSAA playoffs.

“We will go to work immediately to be the most physical and disciplined program we can possibly be," Vickery said in a statement. "We’ll accomplish our goals with tremendous effort and a tireless work ethic. We want our players to be the best version of themselves on and off the field. We believe if we do things the right way, the Pelham Way, success will take care of itself. We can’t wait to get started.”

The Mobile native is a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he played football.

Vickery said he planned to meet with Pelham players, coaches, parents, and community members Wednesday evening in the school's field house following the Pelham City Schools special called board meeting.

“His values and commitment to excellence are aligned with those of our school system and community," Kiel said. "He’s a great coach with high character that truly fits the Pelham culture.”
