One Critically Injured, Self-Defense Possible Motive In Tuscaloosa Gas Station Shooting

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says a Sunday evening shooting at a Tuscaloosa gas station that left one person critically injured may have occurred in self-defense during an attempted robbery.

As Patch previously reported, the Tuscaloosa Police Department initially responded to a shooting call at the Circle K gas station in the 6718 Alabama Highway 69 South.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multiagency metro unit, told local media Sunday night that one person was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.

Kennedy said all individuals involved remained at the scene and were interviewed by responding officers.

"After interviewing witnesses and processing the scene for physical evidence, initial investigation shows that the shooting may have been in self-defense during a possible robbery attempt," he said. "Surveillance video from the business corroborates the witness statements. At this time no one has been charged, but the investigation is ongoing"
