NORTHPORT, AL — Northport Police say one person has been hospitalized after a crash involving a motorcycle and pickup truck on Highway 43 in Northport.

Traffic was backed up to Union Chapel Road Monday afternoon from around the vicinity of Chapel Hill Baptist Church as the Northport Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Unit processes the scene.

NPD Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter told Patch that the initial call of the crash came in at 3:18 p.m. from the 700 block of Highway 43, south of Chapel Hill at Lake Sherwood.
Carpenter said the motorcyclist has been transported to the hospital and the extend of his injuries is not known at this time.

He then said a preliminary investigation believes the truck was pulling out of Lake Sherwood Lane to go north on Highway 43, with the motorcycle traveling south.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
