The Aliceville Fire Department says Buchanan Lumber Company had a crew working on a Baghouse dust collector, which removes solid particulates from entering the workplace and connects to two silos at the company's operations.

The equipment had reportedly been offline for repairs since a previous fire in mid-December. However, AFD says Buchanan employees finished repairing the equipment and were cleaning up tools when they turned the equipment on for a test run, resulting in the explosion.

Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly thereafter, where they discovered the equipment fully engulfed in flames.

Assistance was then requested from the Pickensville and Summerville fire departments, due to other nearby equipment to help contain the blaze.

One person was injured in the blast and was treated at the scene by fire personnel until medics arrived on the scene and transported him to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi.

The injured man's status is unknown at this time, according to both AFD and Pickens County Ambulance Service.
