One Killed, One injured When Tuscaloosa Pursuit Ends In Crash Friday Morning

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A woman is dead and another person hospitalized following an attempted traffic stop that turned into a high-speed chase early Friday morning.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department said a TPD officer attempted to stop a vehicle that had run a stop sign at approximately 4 a.m. at 13th Street East and 15th Avenue. Police then said the driver refused to stop, before continuing along Kicker Road and then north toward Jack Warner Parkway.

TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor told local media Friday morning that the officer pursued the suspect vehicle, but the driver continued driving on to 25th Avenue East. Then, at 4:03 a.m., the suspect vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree near the curve by Tamaha Trace.
Taylor said the male driver was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center and is being treated for injuries. However, a female passenger in the suspect vehicle was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The female passenger killed in the crash has not been publicly identified at this time.
TPD says the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded after the initial call was received and is now handling the investigation.
While the investigation is ongoing, a portion of 25th Avenue East just south of the bridge by Colonial Drive and Jack Warner Parkway will remained closed until further notice.
