During his time at the Capstone from 1974-77, Newsome starred at split end for the legendary Paul W. "Bear" Bryant, going on to become a two-time All-SEC selection and a first team All-American in 1977.
While wearing the crimson and white, Newsome grabbed 102 receptions for 2,070 yards and 16 touchdowns as he helped the Tide to three SEC titles.
After being selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Newsome went on to a 13-year career in the league — even being named to the NFL's All-Decade Team for 1980 and earning enshrinement in both the college and pro football Hall of Fames.
