Pickens County School District Superintendent Stepping Down For New Job

CARROLLTON, AL — The Pickens County Board of Education has accepted the resignation of Superintendent Shawn McDaniel, who will leave the school district at the end of July after accepting a leadership position at Bevill State Community College.

Pickens County School District Board of Education President Annie Jackson said McDaniel's resignation will take effect July 31.

He is departing the district after accepting the position of dean of instruction at Bevill State.

McDaniel has served in the role since winning the general election in November 2024 as a Republican over Democrat Melinda Robinson.

McDaniel's term is set to expire in 2028.

The board said it is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will begin the process of selecting the school system's next superintendent.

"Information regarding the process for selecting the next superintendent will be communicated to employees, families, and the community in the coming days," Jackson said.

The board did not provide additional details for the timeline for naming McDaniel's successor.

"The Board of Education appreciates the continued support of our faculty, staff, students, parents, and community partners as we move forward together in service of the children of Pickens County," Jackson said.
