Planet Fitness Opens On McFarland Boulevard In Northport
Planet Fitness has officially opened the doors at its first Northport location at 3380 McFarland Boulevard.

NORTHPORT, Ala. — The long-awaited opening of Planet Fitness in Northport came first thing Monday morning as the new fitness center debuted its new location on McFarland Boulevard.
The new Planet Fitness is part of a $10 million redevelopment effort in Northport that will see the gym eventually joined next door by a Guthrie's chicken finger restaurant, along with a Marble Slab creamery and Great American Cookie Company. The 5.5-acre property housing the new Planet Fitness is owned by North Square Properties LLC and located at 3380 McFarland Boulevard, which is the former site of a strip mall that was home to the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Patrons could already be seen on some of the workout machines Monday morning as Northport Planet Fitness General Manager Hayden Slatton told Patch that those interested in a membership can sign up right now for $1 for this month, which applies to both its PF Classic and PF Black Card memberships. The newest addition for Planet Fitness represents the third location opened in the Tuscaloosa metro area and the first within the city limits of Northport.
"We'll be open 24/7 from here on out and we are fully staffed so there will always be someone here to help out," she said. "We have a Classic and a Black Card. Both offer free and unlimited fitness training with each of the membership options and any time someone wants to come in, we can always give them a tour and show them around the facility."

Slatton also said there is no commitment or contracts for those who want to give a membership a try, which is a concept made popular by the fitness chain. For those who choose the Black Card membership, which regularly prices out at $22.99 a month, members will gain access to all Planet Fitness locations across the globe, including guest privileges for guests ages 13 and up. These members will also receive 20% off at Reebok.com and 50% off drinks at Planet Fitness locations.
What's more, Slatton said guests will have access to tanning and other amenities specific to the new location.
"At the Northport club, we have a hybrid bed, which uses UV rays and red light technology," she said. "We also have a total body enhancement that's strictly red light and gives you all kinds of collagen benefits, then we have the hydro-massage beds, which gives you a full body massage from the neck to the ankles, and we have our regular massage chairs. All of that's included in our Black Card membership."
Conversely, the PF Classic membership is $10 a month and provides unlimited access to the member's home club, along with free fitness training.
