Public Interest Meeting Tuesday For Main Avenue Improvements

Here's everything you need to know ahead of a public involvement meeting Tuesday night for improvements to Main Avenue in Northport

NORTHPORT, AL — The City of Northport and the Alabama Department of Transportation will host a public interest meeting Tuesday evening regarding proposed enhancements to Main Avenue from 5th Street to U.S. Highway 82.

The proposed project, according to its description, would also see the construction of a roundabout at 10th Street.

The public input meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 29, will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with officials on hand to answer questions and collect feedback. Comments for the project must be submitted by Dec. 14, 2022.

Along with the roundabout and resurfacing, the project will also feature a 6-foot wide sidewalk, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk modifications, brick pavers, new lighting, drainage improvements and additional streetscape work.

What's more, the city aims to add a small park area within the right-of-way between 10th Street and Park Street.

The overall goal of the proposed project will be to not only bolster the city's infrastructure but to also improve pedestrian connectivity in Historic Downtown Northport.
