Pursuit Suspect Hits 130 MPH As Chase Passes Through Tuscaloosa

The interstate pursuit was called off shortly after 5 p.m. Monday night when the suspect crossed over into Jefferson County.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A high-speed chase moved through a small stretch Tuscaloosa County Monday evening, reaching estimated speeds of 130 mph at one point.

A Tuscaloosa Police Department spokesperson told Patch that officers were requested in a pursuit that began in Greene County Monday afternoon.

A TPD officer reportedly spotted the suspect vehicle and followed east on Interstate 20 , before the suspect pulled off on the Cottondale/Coaling exit and continued on Highway 11 toward Five Points.

According to officers in pursuit, the suspect then turned onto Skyland Boulevard and back east on the interstate, which is when the chase reached its highest estimated speeds.

TPD said the driver eventually made a u-turn on the interstate and was heading west again, before turning around one last time to lead officers into a pursuit that crossed over into Jefferson County. Officers then said the driver turned around again and officers continued following him, along with assistance from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and authorities in Jefferson County were notified by TPD at 5:16 p.m. and officers discontinued the pursuit around Exit 100.
