Reading Allies In Need Of Volunteers As Program Expands Across Tuscaloosa
Reading Allies has announced a need for volunteers as it expands into six Tuscaloosa city and county schools this fall.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Reading Allies has announced a need for volunteers as it expands to offer its services to six additional Tuscaloosa city and county schools this fall.

Reading Allies was formed in 2017 as a collaborative effort between the University of Alabama Honors College, the Tuscaloosa Rotary Club, and the Tuscaloosa City Schools. The organization says the planned expansion will allow the ability to serve 375 additional children.

In total, Reading Allies is looking fill the need for volunteers with respect to 750 30-minute reading sessions each week.
As Patch previously reported, Reading Allies is currently involved at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School and The Alberta School for Performing Arts in the Tuscaloosa city School system, in addition to Holt Elementary and Matthews Elementary in the county school system.

Here's a look at the new schools the program is expanding into:
City Schools
- Southview Elementary
- Arcadia Elementary
- Skyland Elementary
- Oakdale Elementary
- Central Elementary
- University Place Elementary
County Schools
- Cottondale Elementary
- Flatwoods Elementary
The fall session for the program is set to begin Sept. 19 and will continue for 10 weeks. The program will concludes the week of Nov. 28.
Volunteer training is scheduled via Zoom the week of Sept. 12, with Reading Allies saying dates and times will be announced at a later date.
