NORTHPORT, AL — Retired Northport Police officer Ron Bolton confirmed to Patch on Friday that he will run in 2022 as a Republican for the District 61 seat in the Alabama House of Representatives that will be vacated by Republican Rodney Sullivan.
Sullivan announced in June that he would not run for re-election after one term in the legislature. Alabama House District 61 includes most of Northport, the town of Coker, portions of northwest Tuscaloosa County, and all of Pickens County.

Bolton, 60, retired from law enforcement as a captain after 25 years of service and is seeking political office for the first time. He describes himself as a life-long conservative and solid supporter of public safety personnel.
His platform, Bolton said, is primarily focused on four key issues: rural broadband access, aiding financially-struggling rural healthcare initiatives, fighting to secure state road and bridge funds and working with economic development leaders at all levels to bring good jobs to the district.
