Shelton State Community College: Theatre Tuscaloosa To Hold Auditions For SecondStage Production Of “Stop Kiss” August 2 & 3

July 27, 2021 – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for Stop Kiss, Monday, August 2, and Tuesday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Road).

Stop Kiss, by Diana Son, is the first SecondStage show of the 2021-22 season. This poignant love story premiered in New York in 1998 and became an instant classic that has been remounted and reviewed around the world many times since.

When Sara rejects the heteronormative life of settling down with a fiance in the suburbs of the midwest and moves to New York City, she meets the sophisticated, life-long city-girl Callie in search of a catsitter. Sarah and Callie click immediately and soon their friendship blossoms into love. After a violent homophobic attack leaves Sara in a coma, Callie has to decide if she’s really living the life she wants or just the one she thinks she’s supposed to have.

Roles available include Sara and Callie, who are women in their mid-20s to mid-30s of any race, George (man, mid-20s to mid-30s of any race) who is Callie’s on-again-off-again friend-with-benefits, and Peter, (man, mid-20s to mid-30s of any race) Sara’s ex-fiance from St. Louis. Featured roles include Mrs. Winsley, (female, at least 40, any race, who is doubled as the Nurse,) a no-nonsense New Yorker who witnesses the attack, and Detective Cole, (male, at least 40, any race,) who is the gruff, insensitive investigator of the attack.

Those who audition should be prepared to participate in cold readings from the script and should bring their calendars with all potential conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule listed. A perusal script of Stop Kiss is available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Rehearsals will begin August 16th at 7:00 p.m. Rehearsals will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday afternoons. All rehearsals will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church at 113 Hargrove Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.

Stop Kiss will be presented October 6-10 at Grace Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. All tickets are general admission and cost $8.00.
