What's more, the program's staff works to help the residents transition back into society by encouraging them to receive their GED and enroll in college courses at Shelton State.

“Adult Education has the ability and honor to guide students to new opportunities and options for a brighter future,” SSCC Director of Adult Education Kristen Bobo said. “Through our program, we ensure all students know and see their dreams are possible through the power of education. You just have to know where to get the training and then put in the work. We love being a part of students' journeys at Shelton State.”

Shelton State says the funds from Alabama Power will be used to assist with transportation, housing, and other needs.

“The Alabama Power Foundation is committed to providing equitable opportunities for the communities we serve,” Alabama Power Western Division Vice President Jill Stork said. “Programs like this allow us to work with community partners to implement social justice initiatives and invest in people who are looking for a second chance to establish themselves as a productive member of their community. We are grateful to be a partner with Shelton State on this initiative.”
