State Rep. Curtis Travis, a Democrat from Tuscaloosa, has announced he is seeking re-election to represent House District 72

TUSCALOOSA, AL — State Rep. Curtis Travis, a Democrat from Tuscaloosa, has announced he is seeking re-election to represent House District 72, which covers parts of Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Hale and Greene counties.

First elected in 2022, Travis cited his work on infrastructure, health care and public services during his time in the Alabama Legislature as reasons voters should cast their ballots for him.

He said his tenure in Montgomery has focused on initiatives aimed at improving quality of life across the district, including efforts to expand internet access and support development along the Alabama Highway 69 corridor.

Travis said health care has also been a central focus of his legislative work, noting his support for Medicaid expansion as a way to help sustain rural hospitals and improve access to care in underserved communities.

Volunteer fire departments have also been a high priority for the lawmaker, in addition to strengthening public education throughout House District 72.

In terms of legislation, he points out hat he was the co-sponsor of a bill aimed at preserving Alabama’s state tax exemption on overtime pay.

“It has been my honor to represent House District 72,” Travis said. “I look forward to continuing to earn your vote to remain your state representative for another four years.”

The 2026 primary election is set for Tuesday, May 19, followed by the general Election on Nov. 3.
