Stillman Baseball's Steven Oates To Play In HBCU All-Star Game Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Stillman College on Thursday announced that pitcher and Mobile native Steven Oates has been selected for the third annual HBCU All-Star Game.

Oates was reportedly a late addition to the Team Andre Dawson roster for the game, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 3 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Georgia — the home of the Gwinnett Stripers, the Triple-A affiliate for the Atlanta Braves.

Oates collected two wins, including a combined no-hitter in the season opener during the 2023 campaign, striking out 54 batters in 51.2 innings of work.

Over the last three season with the Tigers, Oates has thrown 95.1 innings in 28 games, including 22 starts. Oates has three career wins and one save, with 96 total strikeouts.

"This was a goal I set for myself before the season started," Oates said. "I look forward to the camaraderie of all the players that work hard and put in the effort it takes to get an honor like this one. I'm just blessed to be in the position."

Oates is the second Stillman College player to be selected for the all-star showcase, joining Kelvin Reese, who played in the 2021 and 2022 installments.

For the third straight year, Reese was also invited to participate, but will not be able to due to injury.

The All-Star Weekend will begin with a a pro combine on Friday and a youth clinic Saturday at noon.

the Fastest Prospect competition and Home Run Derby will be held before the game Saturday, with first pitch for the All-Star Game scheduled for 6:15 p.m. local time.

The game will be live streamed on the GameChanger app.
