Sumter County Man Killed In Crash Near Gainesville

A Sumter County man is dead after a two-vehicle crash Sunday night on Alabama Highway 39, near Gainesville.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Sumter County man is dead after a two-vehicle crash Sunday night on Alabama Highway 39, roughly five miles south of Gainesville.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) says the wreck occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday when the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Emelle resident Antonio W. Eskridge, 34, struck the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a man from Livingston.

ALEA said the Tahoe left the roadway following the initial impact and struck several trees.

Investigators said Eskridge was not using a seat belt and died of his injuries after being transported to Hill Hospital in York.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
