Suspect Charged With Murder After Man Found Dead In Tuscaloosa Apartment

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the suspected murder of a 67-year-old man who was found dead inside his Tuscaloosa apartment over the weekend.

As Patch previously reported, Tuscaloosa police responded to Brookhaven Apartments at 1310 James I Harrison Jr. Parkway, at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday after a friend discovered Marshall Holifield dead inside his apartment.

Evidence at the scene led investigators to believe Holifield's death was the result of foul play.

Capt. Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, told local media Tuesday that investigators have charged Anthony Markeith Jones, 47, with murder and certain persons prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Kennedy said Jones was arrested Monday night and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he is being held without bond pursuant to Aniah's Law.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the killing or a possible motive.

The investigation remains ongoing.
