TCS Superintendent Announced As Shelton State Commencement Speaker

SSCC has named Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent Mike Daria as the keynote speaker for its upcoming graduation ceremonies.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Shelton State Community College has announced details for its 2026 summer commencement events and named Tuscaloosa City Schools (TCS) Superintendent Mike Daria as the keynote speaker for graduation ceremonies.

Daria has spent his career in public education and has held numerous leadership positions within the city school system.

His roles have included English teacher, assistant principal, principal, executive director of personnel, assistant superintendent and superintendent.

The college's summer commencement activities will begin with the Nursing Pinning Ceremony on Thursday, July 30, at 6 p.m. in the Martin Campus Gymnasium.

Graduation ceremonies will follow on Friday, July 31, with Technical Programs graduates recognized during a 9 a.m. ceremony and Academic and Health Services graduates honored during an 11 a.m. ceremony.

Shelton State also announced the Workforce Development Women's Foundation CDL Graduation Ceremony will be held Monday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Martin Campus Atrium.

All events are open to the public.

The college said each ceremony will be livestreamed through SSCC Live for those unable to attend in person.

College officials said commencement events will proceed as scheduled unless weather conditions require adjustments.

Any delays, relocations or schedule changes will be communicated through Shelton State's official channels, including its website and social media platforms.
