"It wasn’t a pretty win, but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is the scoreboard," Alabama head coach Rob Vaughn said. "This group has found ways to get timely hits and execute pitches, and that’s what it was today."

Six Crimson Tide pitchers saw action in the low-scoring affair, with Bobby Alcock making his ninth start of the year.

Alcock threw 3.2 innings and allowed just one run on four hits.

The Crimson Tide jumped out front early when Will Hodo drove in Jason Torres in the second inning before UAB responded with runs in the third, fifth and seventh.

Aeden Finateri (2-0) picked up the win with a scoreless seventh inning and closer Carson Ozmer secured his 12th save of the season — tying him for third-most in a single season in program history.

Ozmer has converted six straight save opportunities going back to his March 30 appearance against Oklahoma.

UAB (17-20) tied the game at 3 in the top of the seventh but Alabama responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Following Staton's lead-off a solo shot to right field, center fielder and lead-off hitter Richie Bonomolo Jr. doubled home Brennen Norton to give the Tide a two-run cushion.

Norton also came up big in the win, finishing 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the fifth — his fourth multi-RBI game of the season.

Staton also went 2-for-3, while catcher Brady Neal extended his on-base streak to nine games with a single.

The Crimson Tide will return to action Thursday in Baton Rouge for a three-game series against No. 8 LSU.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will air on ESPNU.
