Tide's Kool-Aid McKinstry Named Semifinalist For Thorpe Award
McKinstry, a junior, hopes to become the third player in Crimson Tide history to bring home the coveted award.

TUSCALOOSA, AL— Crimson Tide junior cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry has officially been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, awarded each year by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame to the nation's top defensive back.

Over eight games this season, McKinstry has also been targeted 27 times, allowing only 131 total yards. What's more, McKinstry is credited with breaking up five passes and logging 20 tackles.

He has also returned 11 punts for a total of 58 yards.
The University of Alabama Athletic Department on Tuesday said three finalists for the award will be named live on ESPN on Nov. 28, with the 2023 winner of the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award named at the Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8.

Two Crimson Tide players have won the award in the program's history: Antonio Langham (1993) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (2017).
