Tim Parker III Elected To Chair Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority Board
TCEDA on Wednesday announced it has elected Tim Parker III, president of Parker Towing Company, as its board chair.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority (TCEDA) on Wednesday announced it has elected Tim Parker III, president of Parker Towing Company, as its board chair for 2026.

The distinction makes Parker the organization’s first second-generation chair after his father, Tim Parker Jr., led the authority in 1980 and 1981.

Parker succeeds Steven S. Rumsey of Rumsey Properties, whose term ended Dec. 31, 2025.
“I appreciate the opportunity given to me by this board to lead the Authority’s efforts in support of Tuscaloosa County’s growth and development,” Parker said. “For 50 years, our drive has been to create new jobs and opportunities for our citizens and community, and we will continue that focus through the support of our partners, volunteers and local elected officials.”

Parker said the authority’s impact can be seen across the community today as Tuscaloosa County enjoys international investment, diverse business activities,and a thriving quality of life.
"TCEDA is proud of its contributions, past and present, to the community we call home," he said. "We will continue to build on existing resources to unlock our future opportunities.”
Parker added that he is personally honored to serve in a role once held by his father.
Private wealth advisor J. Jordan Plaster was also elected vice chair, and Jill S. Stork, vice president of Alabama Power Company’s western division, will serve as treasurer.
TCEDA Executive Director Justice Smyth was re-elected as secretary, while Michael D. Smith, partner at Smith & Staggs LLP and TCEDA legal counsel, was re-elected as assistant secretary.
“Since its establishment in 1975, our organization has led the movement to build and develop manufacturing investment in Tuscaloosa County,” Smyth said. “Our efforts have contributed to the growth of homegrown businesses, the location of world-class corporations, and everything in between.”
Smyth also said TCEDA plans to expand its role, with hopes to add a technology and knowledge-based component that underscores the swell of resources available through its three institutions of higher learning: The University of Alabama, Stillman College and Shelton State Community College.
“Our officers and board members represent complementary resources that will serve the authority well as we build on our past success while introducing a new course for Tuscaloosa County," he said.
