TPD Officers Credited With Convincing Man Not To Jump From Overpass Near DCH
Two Tuscaloosa Police officers are credited with successfully dissuading a man from jumping off of the overpass near DCH Monday night.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Two Tuscaloosa Police officers are credited with successfully dissuading a man from jumping off of the overpass near DCH Regional Medical Center Monday night.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department says officers responded to the overpass and found a man had climbed over the railing and was threatening to jump. TPD then closed University Boulevard and McFarland Boulevard to traffic and began talking with the man.

The two officers — who TPD said have received extensive training with the department's Crisis Intervention Team, along with FBI Negotiation Training — took the lead on engaging with the man.
The officers eventually gained the man's trust and convinced him to cross back over the guard rail.

"They were faced with a difficult and tense situation," TPD said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. "We’re proud they used their training and skill to save a life and get this man the help he needed."
