Tuscaloosa Police Warn Of Credit Card Skimmers At Interstate Gas Stations

Credit card skimmers have been found on gas pumps in certain areas off of Interstate 20/59 recently by local police.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department is warning the public to be aware of credit card skimmers in the area after the scamming devices were found on gas pumps in certain areas off of Interstate 20/59.

TPD said investigators believe offenders target gas stations along interstates and place the devices on pumps before moving on to the next exit.

"They’ll return after a period of time, then use the victim’s credit card information after some time has passed," the department said in its message to the public. "This makes it less likely that incriminating video surveillance can be found."

TPD then said its Criminal Investigations Division is actively monitoring gas stations in the area, especially those near the interstate, and have not found any skimmers currently in use.

Still, police continue to advise the public to routinely check their bank statements and report any unusual or potentially fraudulent activity.
