Trey Petty's Triple-Double Leads Stillman In Opening Win At Rust

HOLLY SPRINGS, MS — Stillman College senior guard Trey Petty, a Huntsville native and transfer from the University of West Alabama, notched a career-high 38 points Tuesday night in an impressive season-opening 89-73 win on the road at Rust College.

Petty managed a triple-double to power the Tigers, grabbing 14 rebounds and 12 assists for his first Stillman triple-double, marking the fifth in the NAIA this season and the first by a Southern States Athletic Conference player during the 2021 campaign.

His 38 points and 12 assists are also both season-highs among SSAC players this season. Petty was joined by senior Ladarius Carter's 18 points and sophomore Derrick Finklea's 12 points.

Sophomore forward Tomias Brand also scored nine as Stillman shot 50% from the floor and 51.9% (14-27) from three-point range.

Stillman (1-0) will open its Southern States Athletic Conference slate on Jan. 8-9, hosting William Carey University in Birthright Alumni Hall for a two-day series. The home-opener tips off at 7:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a 5 p.m. game Saturday.

Due to coronavirus safety protocols, no outside attendance will be allowed for Stillman College home basketball games other than 71 on-campus Stillman students, who will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All Stillman home basketball games will be live streamed.
