TTS, Atlanta Braves Partner For Tuscaloosa Baseball Showcase

The tournaments and events will be held April 22-24 as part of a partnership initiative between Tuscaloosa Tourism & Sports and the Braves

TUSCALOOSA, ALTuscaloosa Tourism and Sports on Monday announced that former Atlanta Braves baseball players will come to town April 22-24 as part of a partnership between TTS and the major league team. The event will feature tournaments, skill competitions and more designed to promote baseball in the area.

The“Growing The Game” initiative is aimed at passing along the love of baseball to a new generation of athletes and will see TTS and the Braves host a Braves Country Battle tournament for 40 to 70 teams ages 6-18 over three days. Teams will play for a chance to compete in the Braves Country Championship, hosted in the Atlanta area on All-Star Weekend, July 9-11.

The event is part of a partnership finalized by TTS Director of Sports Stan Adams.

“This event has been six months in the making,” Adams said. “As a baseball fan myself, it is so awesome to work with a household name like the Atlanta Braves on this project. The choices of Bowers Park, a beautiful facility operated by the Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority was a huge part of the Atlanta Braves decision to bring their event to Tuscaloosa.”

TTS President and CEO Don Staley expressed his excitement, calling the partnership a "landmark achievement for TTS."

“The staff we have here at TTS is nothing short of incredible, and I consider this a home run for our Director of Sports," he said.

Atlanta Braves President and CEO Derek Schiller said the organization developed this series of youth baseball tournaments to focus on providing teams from across the southeast with a fun, competitive and unforgettable tournament experience.

“We look forward to our partnership with Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports and look forward to bringing the Braves Country Battles to Tuscaloosa," he said.

Braves Country Battles Tuscaloosa will feature a Friday night ceremony with a skills competition and a meet-and-greet with Atlanta Braves alumni.
