Tuscaloosa Area Home Sales Rise 31% Year Over Year For January

Tuscaloosa has sustained rapid growth in recent months and years, which has been reflected in the local housing market.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — January home sales in the Tuscaloosa area rose 31.2% year over year, according to the latest report from the Tuscaloosa Association of Realtors, which showed an increase from 173 closed transactions to 227

The realty association also cited the market following seasonal trends, with sales decreasing 26.8% from December, while Tuscaloosa area homes listed for sale decreased 33.7% year over year from 760 listings to 504 in January.

National Association of Realtors Chief Economist Lawrence Yun said home sales continue to climb in the first month of the year, as buyers quickly snatched up virtually every new listing coming on the market.

"Sales easily could have been even 20% higher if there had been more inventory and more choices. Home sales are continuing to play a part in propping up the economy," he said. "With additional stimulus likely to pass and several vaccines now available, the housing outlook looks solid for this year.”
