Tuscaloosa-Area Unemployment Rises From Previous Month, Still Down For Year
Unemployment rose from December to January, but still marked an improvement from unemployment numbers this time a year ago.
TUSCALOOSA, AL — Unemployment in the Tuscaloosa metropolitan area climbed by nearly a percentage point to start the new year, going from 2.8% in December 2021 to 3.5% in January, according to the latest employment data from the Alabama Department of Labor.

While up for the latest month, January's unemployment totals for the Tuscaloosa metro still mark an improvement year-over-year from 4.5% in January 2021. In all, the latest data shows 1,479 individuals were added to the metro's percentage of those currently out of work during this time.
