Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent Positive For COVID-19
Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent Mike Daria has tested positive for the coronavirus, a TCS spokesperson confirmed Thursday.

TUSCALOOSA, AL. — Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent Mike Daria has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, a TCS spokesperson confirmed to Patch on Thursday.
TCS spokeswoman Lesley Bruinton said Daria was quarantining at home and working remotely following his positive test this week.
The news comes less than a week ahead of the the district's plan to return to full-time in-person instruction for students choosing to do so on Oct. 19 — a date that has already been pushed back from the initial projected start date of Oct. 12.

According to the most recent data from the city school system, there are 19 active COVID-19 cases among the system's 10,763 students, with 271 currently in isolation. Among more than 1,400 TCS employees, 88 are reported to be in quarantine, while 16 cases are listed as active.
