Tuscaloosa County To Begin Resurfacing Martin Road Friday

NORTHPORT, AL — Martin Road is one of the most high-traffic connectors in Tuscaloosa County and will soon receive some much-needed attention as a highly-anticipated resurfacing project is set to commence on Friday.

The Tuscaloosa County Road Department was already out on Thursday working on the shoulders of the road to prep it for repaving. The winding, fairly-populated road is one of the busiest county roads north of the Warrior River, as it connects Alabama Highway 69 and Watermelon Road.

Countless commuters use Martin Road traveling to and from Tuscaloosa, leaving the road showing visible signs of wear.
District 1 Commissioner Stan Acker, whose district includes Martin Road, told Patch that resurfacing work would begin after school hours on Friday. He then said the week of Thanksgiving was chosen because of school being out and the fact that many will travel over the holiday, potentially reducing the number of motorists using Martin Road.

"That road takes a beating and it was just time to repave it," Acker said. "Barring weather or anything else, hopefully it will be done before Thanksgiving."
