Tuscaloosa County EMA To Offer Free Community Emergency Response Training In March
The Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is set to offer free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in March.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is set to offer free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training beginning on March 7.

EMA officials say the CERT program is designed to teach community members the skills to effectively react during emergency situations such as natural disasters.

As part of the training, CERT provides the necessary instruction for members of the community to provide assistance during emergency situations, with the goal of freeing up first responders to focus on areas of immediate danger and need in times of crisis.

Tuscaloosa County EMA
Attendees will be trained in basic disaster response skills such as, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

What's more, attendees will receive a certificate of completion after attending a minimum of seven of the eight sessions and successfully completing the practical exercise with hands-on instruction in fire suppression, search and rescue, and medical training.
The training is open to anyone age 18 and older, with classes held as a series of eight 2.5-, 3-, or 3.5-hour sessions. Tuscaloosa County EMA says all of the class locations will be held in Tuscaloosa County.
Attendees will also be subject to a certified background check and approval by Tuscaloosa County EMA.
