TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa County EMA and our news partners at WVUA 23 are hosting an art contest for local students, with the winners presented a range of interesting prizes.

The contest, which will be open to fifth through eighth grade students in the city or county school systems, will kick off on Nov. 7 and last through Dec. 16.

Tuscaloosa County EMA says the intention of the contest is to encourage the goal of preparedness among students.

Prizes will include: A feature news story on WVUA 23 and a chance to report the weather with WVUA Chief Meteorologist Richard Scott; Acknowledged at a Tuscaloosa County Commission Meeting and winners will have their drawing displayed on Lamar Billboards throughout Tuscaloosa County.

Tuscaloosa County EMA says students are encouraged to create an art piece on an 8.5’ x 11’ sheet of paper that should include the TuscALERT logo and incorporate images referencing weather, weather safety and first responders.

Submissions should also include the student’s name, grade, school and a phone number on the back of the drawing.

Drawings can be delivered to the Tuscaloosa County EMA office or mailed to 7400 Richard M. Pierce Parkway, Northport, AL 35473.

Submissions must be postmarked by Dec. 16, 2022.
