Tuscaloosa County Schools To Close Monday As Winter Storm Moves Over Alabama
The Tuscaloosa County School System will close all schools and office on Monday in anticipation of icy conditions.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County School System (TCSS) announced Sunday that its schools and offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 26, due to extreme cold and the potential for hazardous travel conditions.

TCSS also said all extracurricular activities scheduled for Monday have been canceled.

Officials cited forecasts calling for extremely cold temperatures late Sunday into Monday, with temperatures expected to remain at or below freezing throughout the day.
School leaders said that with significant moisture already on the ground, there is concern about icy conditions on roads and bridges, particularly on less traveled routes.

“Safety is our top priority, and we must make the safest decision for all of our students, faculty and staff,” the school system said in a statement.
The school system said it will provide an update Monday afternoon regarding its plans for Tuesday, Jan. 27.
