The 10-year-old Belgian Malinois recently celebrated his retirement surrounded by fellow K9 officers, who marked the occasion with a special ice cream gathering.

TCSO says Charlie served alongside Flowers throughout his law enforcement career and became known for his high energy, strong work ethic and larger-than-life personality.

"Charlie always gave his all on the job," the sheriff's office said in a social media announcement celebrating the veteran K9's retirement.

While his days of active duty have come to an end, Charlie will remain with Flowers and his family, where he will spend his retirement enjoying treats, playtime and the company of his canine siblings.

Officials joked that although Charlie is slowing down, "no tennis ball is safe."

Sheriff Ron Abernathy said TCSO will continue supporting Charlie in retirement by covering his veterinary care and any other needs that may arise.

"Thank you for your service, Charlie, you've been the very best boy," the sheriff's office said.
