Countywide Tuscaloosa Spelling Bee Set For Feb. 3
The Tuscaloosa Kiwanis Club is once again set to the host the countywide spelling bee, which is open to all schools in the area.

NORTHPORT, AL — The Tuscaloosa Kiwanis Club is set to host the Tuscaloosa Spelling Bee on Feb. 3 at Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Northport.

The local competition is part of the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, beginning at the classroom level. Winners then move on to compete in school spelling bees before advancing to the countywide competition.

Winners then move on to state and national competitions. The county spelling bee was held virtually last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with help from Scripps National.
Former "Reading Rainbow" host LeVar Burton is set to host of the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in June.

The Tuscaloosa Kiwanis Club has sponsored the Tuscaloosa Spelling Bee for many years, with all primary, elementary, intermediate, middle, and junior high schools located in Tuscaloosa County — whether city, county, or private — eligible to register and compete.
The club hopes to start with an optional practice round at noon and begin the competition at 12:30 p.m.
