Tuscaloosa Man Accused Of Stabbing Cousin To Death Saturday Night

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Tuscaloosa man is charged with murder after police say he stabbed his cousin to death Saturday night.

Captain Marty Sellers of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said that Tuscaloosa Police officers responded at approximately 10:50 p.m. Saturday to the 2600 block of 25th Street after receiving a 911 call reporting a stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found Robert Dewayne Hollie, 46, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Sellers said Hollie was transported to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.

He then said Derrick Dewayne Prewitt, 49, of Tuscaloosa, later turned himself in at the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

Witnesses told police that Hollie had gone to the residence to help repair a door but said Prewitt immediately became aggressive and attacked him.

Sellers said Prewitt claimed he acted in self-defense but investigators determined the evidence did not support that claim.

Prewitt was charged with murder and is being held without bond at the Tuscaloosa County Jail under Aniah’s Law.

The investigation remains ongoing.
