Tuscaloosa Man Charged After Pursuit Ends In Greene County Tuesday

The Tuscaloosa Police Department has apprehended a vehicle theft suspect following a high-speed pursuit Tuesday that ended in Greene County.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department has apprehended a vehicle theft suspect following a high-speed pursuit Tuesday that ended in Greene County.

TPD says Stone Michael McDowell, 23, of Tuscaloosa, is charged with first-degree theft and was transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail after being taken into custody.

The department said the victim briefly went to pick up a to-go order from the Smoothie King on the Strip around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, when he walked back outside to find that his 2015 Land Rover had been stolen.

The victim, using GPS tracking, was able to see the vehicle was traveling west on Interstate 59/20.

State Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency attempted to stop the vehicle near the 52 mile marker, but McDowell eventually stopped at the Knoxville exit and attempted to escape by running into the woods alongside the interstate.

Following an extensive search, McDowell was apprehended and charged without incident.
