Tuscaloosa Man Gets Prison Time For Federal Firearms Charge
A Tuscaloosa man was sentenced this week to nearly four years in prison for being a convicted felon in possession of a semi-automatic rifle.
TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Tuscaloosa man has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for being a felon in illegal possession of a semi-automatic rifle.

In an announcement Wednesday from U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent in Charge Mickey French, a federal judge sentenced Julian Devaughn Lewis, 46, to 46 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

Lewis entered a guilty plea to the felony charge in December 2021.
The plea agreement states Lewis obtained the rifle the previous July and stored in a Northport storage facility. However, he was was arrested on an unrelated charge, resulting in the ATF seizing the rifle and ammunition from the storage facility.

According to Escalona's office, Lewis has prior felony convictions on drug charges and for receiving stolen property.
“The possession of a high-capacity assault rifle by a convicted felon is a potentially deadly situation," Escalona said, "and I am grateful to our ATF partners for their work in bringing this defendant to justice."
