Tuscaloosa Mayor’s Cup To Benefit City's Pre-K Initiative This Weekend

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa and Mayor Walt Maddox will host the 2026 Tuscaloosa Mayor’s Cup this Saturday, April 25, in downtown Tuscaloosa.

The annual 5K race, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., serves as a fundraiser for the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative, which works to expand access to pre-kindergarten programs for children in the city.

Held each year since 2007, the Mayor’s Cup is open to participants of all ages, with runners and walkers both encouraged to take part.

Race timing will be tracked using chips attached to participants’ bibs and awards will be presented following the event.

Registration remains open ahead of race day.

In addition to the race, event organizers are partnering with Temporary Emergency Services and Tuscaloosa City Schools to collect new and gently used tennis shoes for local children.

Donation bins will be set up at Government Plaza on April 25, with all sizes accepted.
