Tuscaloosa Police Confirm Bar Owner Killed In Crash Involving Train

Scott Harless, owner of Nocturnal Tavern, has been identified as the Tuscaloosa man killed early Wednesday morning in an crash with a train.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department has identified a 37-year-old Tuscaloosa man and local bar owner killed just after midnight on Wednesday when his SUV collided with a train.

Scott Harless, owner of Nocturnal Tavern, was well-known in the Tuscaloosa service industry, with previous stints in managerial and bartending roles at establishments such as Top Shelf, Avenue Pub, The Bear Trap and Gallettes, to name a few.

Central Mesa owner Brandon Tribble said on Facebook Wednesday that Harless was a business partner and loved by many. He then said the eatery was closed Wednesday following news of Harless being killed.

Central Mesa plans to reopen Thursday at 11 a.m.

TPD says investigators believe Harless collided with the train near the intersection of 16th Street and Queen City Avenue.

The SUV was reportedly pushed by the train about 100 yards to the area behind Tuscaloosa Fire Station 1 at Greensboro Avenue and 16th Street.

TPD then said paramedics responded and discovered that Harless had died at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
