Tuscaloosa Public Library Names Pearson As Next Executive Director

Interim Executive Director Jennifer Gladden Pearson has been hired to the role in a full-time capacity, the library announced Thursday

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Public Library Board of Trustees has named Jennifer Gladden Pearson as its next executive director following a nationwide search.

Pearson has served as interim executive director during the search and interview process, with TPL Board Chair Terri Olive Tompkins referring to her as a "tremendous asset."

She first began her career at TPL as a librarian assistant in 1998 and went on to work in several capacities including deputy director and, most recently, interim director since November 2021.

Pearson expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and the possibilities on the horizon for the library.

"TPL is an invaluable resource, and I look forward to working with the dynamic and dedicated staff, the Board of Trustees, and the community to continue expanding our services and unique learning experiences into the entire community," she said. "Our public library is such a valuable asset to our community, and I look forward to the library continuing to provide needed services and unique learning opportunities throughout the entire county.”

Pearson holds undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Alabama.

The board praised Pearson's work as interim director, as she spearheaded new outreach programs, saw updates to equipment, secured additional grants, and oversaw the elimination of late fees.

“Jennifer has worked in practically every area of TPL, understands our community and its needs, and has a strong commitment to making the library the best in this region.” Tompkins said. “We are very excited about the bright future of TPL under Jennifer’s leadership.”
